On the saddle between the two Kirtipur hills south of Kathmandu is the three-storied Bagh Bhairav Temple, built between 1099 and 1126. The temple is dedicated to Shiva the Destroyer (Bhairav) in the form of a tiger (bahg). The temple is covered with swords and shields that belong to the troop of Kirtipur, who were defeated by the army of King Prithvi Narayan Shah.
